Step inside history at Livraria Bertrand

In the heart of the Chiado neighbourhood, sits Livraria Bertrand, the oldest operational bookstore in the world! Founded in 1732, it has hosted a number of famous writers and thinkers including Aquilino Ribeiro (famous novelist and nobel prize nominee).

It hosts many places for visitors to sit and read, as well as a small café towards the very back of the store. A great place to have a coffee while you read your latest purchase!

Wait! There is more...

This is not the only place to celebrate your love of books either, as Lisbon is a hotspot for popular bookstores and markets, also known as 'Alfarrabista'. For example, below our very own Synopsis office, is the well known Misturado bookstore, which has a variety of books to browse and shop. As well as (just a 2 minute walk away) a regular open book market, in a nearby public garden which sells everything from historical novels to classic vinyls!
