Beach Mode: Activated!

Just beyond Lisbon's colourful urban terrain, exists a bellyful of enticing coast. As temperatures rise here in the city, it's a perfect time for a short escape to one of the many surrounding beaches. Whether it's for taking up surfing and challenging Europe's most monumental waves; or for doing nothing at all, there is a broad list of shoreline spots that we can recommend for anyone with a craving for an excursion in to the natural side of Lisbon.

Of this list, it's also useful to note that anyone with a Lisboa Viva Card can use the pass all the way to these spots!

THE CLOSEST: Praia de Carcavelos

The quickest route to oceanic freedom from the city centre is the thirty minute train from Cais do Sodré to the lengthiest stretch of sand on the Estoric coast, Praia de Carcavelos. It's easy access makes it one of the busier beaches, but is an intern favourite for beginners surf lessons and friendly games of volleyball.

THE HIDDEN GEM SPOT: Sintra Coast

Like all the best hidden spots of tranquil seclusion, the Sintra Coast is harder to reach but well worth the effort. We can't guarantee it's 100% tourist-proof, but it's as close as you can get to seaside secrecy.

THE ADVENTURE DESTINATION: Costa Da Caparica

A day here is an entire adventure starting with a boat trip and landing you in the large town of Costa Da Caparica. Whilst only a quick ride over the Tagus river, you are instantly transported to an entirely different surrounding reminiscent of a traditional fishing village.

Wherever you decide on, bring everything you need to enjoy a day of relaxation...and that includes sun cream!
