From a surfer’s standpoint, Portugal has it all. Especially in Lisbon as there are lots of great beaches in the surrounding areas that are ideal for surfing. It’s safe to say our interns at Synopsis Practice have been taking full advantage! That’s right, we have some keen surfers in our ranks with Charlie Corciulo, Graham Taylor and James Clements who have been taking part in our internship scheme since late September. They’re beach and surf obsessed and have love the surf life here in Lisbon. For this blog, we asked them how their Lisbon surfing experience has been!

Costa da Caparica

Charlie Corciulo

Charlie is an Architecture intern at CVDB Arquitectos and has had an amazing time discovering new beaches and surfs alike. Here’s what she’s had to say on her experience during her Synopsis Practice internship:

“Learning how to surf was one of the main reasons I chose Lisbon, with perfect waves from beginner to expert only a bus or train ride away. There’s no shortage of rental and lesson places (would recommend Angel Surf in Carcavelos for their board selection) and I’ve met some of my favourite people through the surf community here. Sunrise surfs became the norm and after a solid three months of getting beaten up by the sea I can now, arguably, surf”.

Graham Taylor

It would be an understatement to say Graham is a surfing enthusiast! He’s even brought his own surfboard with him from South Africa! He’s been making the most out of his internship by hitting the beaches near Lisbon to experience one of the best surfs in the world. Here’s what he has to say on his experience:

“Surfing in Portugal has to be one of the meccas in Europe. I have mainly surfed around Lisbon and I have had a few of the best surfs of my life. The main spots for me have been Carcavelos and Costa da Caparica. I took a road trip up to Peniche and Ericeira for a couple of days which are supposed to be world class. Even though the surf wasn't great during that time I realized the potential it has. I would highly recommend Portugal for keen surfers as there's surf from the top of Portugal all the way to the bottom.”

James Clements

James is an English Teaching Assistant in his internship with Synopsis Practice and has been taking every opportunity he can to learn new experiences throughout his stay in Lisbon. Here’s what he’s said about diving headfirst into a range of water sport activities:

“During my three months in Lisbon, I have enjoyed participating in several different adventure sports. I kayaked in the River Tagus, went on a paddleboarding tour along the Cascais coast and went on a hike at Cabo da Roca. I have also very much enjoyed my surfing lessons with Wanted Surfing School in Carcavelos. I can now stand up on the surfboard and surf - albeit at a beginner level!”

Our interns have been able to get some amazing pictures of the beach locations in and around Lisbon! So, here are a few of Synopsis’ personal favourites:
