In addition to providing our interns with international work experience, Synopsis Practice also provides free accommodation to all of our interns for up to 3 months as well as constant monitoring and mentoring. All of this it implemented so our interns can develop real world and valuable work experience in a field that interests them, while getting the opportunity to discover a European paradise such as Lisbon.

Our office

The Synopsis Practice office is based in central Lisbon, and is a part of an artistic and cultural co-working space named "Misturado". The multi-room complex supports a range of activities and events such as regular classes, book launches and rehearsals as well as provides space for organisations such as Synopsis Practice to work. The "Misturado" co-working space is a homely environment with a truly vintage spirit that helps to welcome, inspire and nurture creative and entrepreneurial minds which is why it is a perfect space for our Synopsis Practice interns.

Meet our interns – Ruxy and Nando

Our interns Ruxy and Nando have been working with Synopsis Practice since September and are having a great time in Lisbon so far! To find out more about their experience of being an Erasmus+ intern with Synopsis, we asked them a series of questions:

Nando Merino

A little bit about yourself (name, where you’re from and why you chose to do an internship):

I am Nando Merino, from Cádiz, Andalusia. I chose to participate in the Erasmus scholarship because I love to travel and get to know other countries and learn about other cultures.

What’s your job title and daily tasks at Synopsis?

I work as a web developer at Synopsis, taking care of the development of new websites and updating and improving existing ones.

What’s it like working for Synopsis?

Working at Synopsis is a lot of fun since we are a young and multidisciplinary team, with people from all over the world and you never get bored.

What was it like working at the Synopsis office?

I was able to apply my knowledge in the world of work and they allowed me to learn more and develop professionally.

How do you think this internship has benefited you?

In addition to learning a new language and culture, I have expanded my work capacity adding a great experience for the future.

What do you think of the city of Lisbon itself and would you recommend coming here?

Lisbon is wonderful! I love this city, I would be delighted to live here for a long time, it is a beautiful and young city, with a place for culture and having a good time.

Ruxandra Albulescu

A little bit about yourself (name, where you’re from and why you chose to do an internship):

My name is Ruxandra Albulescu. Originally from Romania, I spent the past two years in the United Kingdom completing an MA course in Character Animation. After I graduated, it became clear the pandemic had put a dent in a few of my plans and I started to look for other options – and this internship seemed like an incredible opportunity to gain practical work experience doing something I enjoy while also exploring a new city. Easily the best thing to happen in 2020!

What’s your job title and daily tasks at Synopsis?

I am a graphic design intern working for Synopsis Practice and their parent company 3SI on several projects. Mostly I have been focusing on rebranding a language school by establishing a new visual style and creating all the assets for their website and social media pages. But in general, my work involves a mixture of graphic design, illustration, animation, and even photography.

What’s it like working for Synopsis?

It’s definitely challenging and fun! I feel like there is a good amount of creative freedom along with a lot of responsibility, which suits me very well. And given that my main project revolves around a language school and that I am passionate about foreign languages myself I also feel like my work here has been meaningful.

What was it like working at the Synopsis office?

The Synopsis office is situated above a small and lovely bookstore which I always enjoyed starting the day with! And as Synopsis is our host organization here in Lisbon many of the other interns would sometimes drop by for a day or two – which made for some really fun lunches in the good restaurants nearby.

How do you think this internship has benefited you?

The internship has helped me grow in many ways. I got to experience a new work culture, to learn Portuguese and practice my Spanish, and to meet people from different fields and also learn a little about what they do. More importantly, I now have a clearer idea of what I would like to do in the future along with some new material for my graphic design portfolio.

What do you think of the city of Lisbon itself and would you recommend coming here?

Lisbon is BEAUTIFUL. Now that I’ve been living here for the past three months it’s going to be difficult to say goodbye! I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to others because I feel there are things for anyone to enjoy such as a rich history, tasty food, lively street music, and the most spectacular views of a colourful city.
